As a Senior AI Engineer on Confer's India team, you own AI architecture and the full ML lifecycle end to end — designing and orchestrating the agent teams behind our products — while setting technical standards and mentoring engineers. Confer Solutions AI (Confer Inc., doing business as Confer Solutions AI) is an applied-AI company. We build intelligent agents — and the orchestration that makes teams of them work together — to automate real, end-to-end work. Founded by Yatin Karnik, our Founder and CEO and a former 18-year Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo, Confer pairs teams of AI agents with our own engineers to take products from idea to production. Across everything we build, the throughline is the same: intelligent agents that automate what humans shouldn't have to do.
This is a senior, fully remote role on Confer's India team. You'll lead AI engineering on a shared codebase and roadmap with a US-headquartered team, keeping meaningful overlap with US hours while the culture stays asynchronous and outcome-driven. Senior engineers here own real architecture and direction — including how our agent teams are designed and orchestrated — not just tickets.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you own AI systems end to end — from architecture and system design through production deployment at scale. You'll decide how our agents, retrieval, model pipelines, and the orchestration that ties them together fit as a whole, set the standards the rest of the team builds to, and own the full ML lifecycle from data to serving to monitoring. You'll design and lead agent teams — the worker and oversight agents that automate real workflows — and turn ambiguous product goals into reliable systems. Just as importantly, you'll mentor engineers and raise the technical bar. This is a role for an experienced engineer who wants both deep technical ownership and real influence over how we build.
What you'll do
- Own architecture and system design for production AI: agents, agent orchestration, RAG, model pipelines, and the infrastructure around them.
- Design and lead multi-agent systems (worker and oversight agents) that automate end-to-end workflows.
- Take AI systems from design through deployment at scale, including reliability, cost, and monitoring.
- Own the full ML lifecycle — data, fine-tuning, evaluation, serving, and observability.
- Set technical standards, review others' work, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers.
- Partner with founders and product to turn ambiguous goals into reliable systems.
What we're looking for
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of software/AI engineering, with significant time owning production ML or AI systems.
- Deep experience architecting and operating production AI and agent orchestration at scale.
- Strong Python and a modern ML/LLM stack (PyTorch, Hugging Face, RAG, agentic/MCP, LangChain/LangGraph, vector databases).
- Experience with workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal) and the full ML lifecycle, from data and fine-tuning to deployment and monitoring.
- A track record of technical leadership and mentoring.
Nice to have
- Multi-model routing (LiteLLM / OpenRouter) and large-scale agent orchestration in production.
- Built or scaled LLM evaluation and observability.
- Comfort leading across a distributed, US-aligned team.
